Scholarships

The Albert Coates Memorial Trust raises funds to sponsor several annual student scholarships at tertiary level and four prizes at Sir Albert's old primary school in Ballarat.

An important criterion for the Awards is a demonstrated ability to achieve academically whilst overcoming challenging circumstances. The Trust particularly offers scholarships to assist the advancement of training for regionally based nurses, doctors and rural health workers.

How the Scholarship Program Works

The 2024/25 round of the Coates Trust Scholarship program has been confirmed. Please refer to the guidelines for each scholarship as to when to apply and check the conditions for the scholarship. Normally you will need to be enrolled in the course which provides the relevant scholarship. Applications are usually made through the participating university courses or as specified in the notes for each scholarship.

The exception to this is the Department of Health Regional Nursing awards which are provided to registered nurses in one health region, rotating annually to another part of the state. Applications are made directly to the Coates Trust in association with the Department of Health.
