Australian Catholic University - Aquinas Campus, Ballarat, Nursing/Paramedicine


The Albert Coates/Australian Legion of Ex-Service Men and Women Scholarship was created in 2016 to acknowledge the achievements of second year students enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Paramedicine Courses.

The scholarship is valued at $3,000 and is intended to assist with payments required for the medical internship component of third year studies.

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to applicants who meet all of the following criteria:

  • Citizenship: domestic
  • Faculty: Health Sciences
  • Course: Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing/Paramedicine
  • Campus: Ballarat
  • Year level: second or third year of course (as of Semester 1 2024)
  • Study load: full-time
  • Engagement with the community

Application process

Applicants will be required to provide the following as part of the application:

  • A written statement of approximately 300 words outlining:
    • how you engage with your (local) community and how this reflects the mission and values of ACU.
    • challenges or barriers you have faced in accessing higher education, and how your degree will change your future.
    • if relevant, details of your personal or family involvement with the Australian Armed Services
  • A Letter of Recommendation from a community leader that supports the community engagement activities outlined in your written statement. 
  • If relevant, evidence of your regional, rural or remote address.

Selection criteria

Applications are assessed based on the strength of the following criteria:

  • Community engagement
  • Letter of Recommendation
  • Academic merit (based on ACU results)
  • Challenges or barriers 
  • Interview (if shortlisted)
